The Redwoods Listening Post was formed in 2020 as an Internews-affiliated Listening Post project to cover the pandemic. Access Humboldt implemented THE RLP to equip and amplify the voices of Humboldt County's disenfranchised communities, inspired by the work done in our Eureka Information Ecosystem Assessment. Since 2022, THE RLP transitioned its areas of concentration to focus on the interests of Black, Latinx, Asian, local Tribal communities, and 2S/LGBTQIA+ residents. We emphasize these communities and their stories, because we want to build diverse local media collaborations to support local news and information efforts.
THE RLP MISSION
Our mission is to provide accurate and informative news coverage to the residents of The North Coast. To deliver media resources that nurture the development of these community-specific stories to create inclusion and advocate for diversity within the media industry.
OUR VISION FOR NEWS
We envision a collaborative community effort where we engage in relationship-building with our North Coast audience by presenting perspectives not frequently included in print, TV, radio, and online media. We want to empower our communities by creating news and information that is meaningful to them and equip communities with the resources to share their stories on major local platforms.
