Welcome! If you're reading this, first off, thank you—and second, take a seat and let's talk. My name is Kelby "KB" McIntosh, and I'm the voice of narration for this journey into journalism you'll soon be undertaking. Since relocating to Humboldt County, my job has been to inspire, build, and create, all in the name of journalism.
While my job is a rollercoaster ride of navigating unfamiliar territories, engaging with different communities, and occasionally looking for the sun (no, really, where is it?), my biggest goal I take COMPLETE pride in--is building a platform that can house the new arrival of news content you'll be interacting with. At Access Humboldt, we have many different ideas and ways to deliver accurate and timely information, but we need a space to house it all before we can get started. Though The Redwood Listening Post has been around long before this new blog space was created, you might be thinking, what is The RLP?
Who are we?
we're the news.
The Redwoods Listening Post (RLP) is a solutions-based news outlet that addresses the needs of Humboldt County by producing local stories and media that amplify the voices of disenfranchised communities. Our mission is to provide accurate and informative news coverage to the residents of The North Coast. To deliver media resources that nurture the development of these community-specific stories to create inclusion and advocate for diversity within the media industry.
Our content format focuses on podcasting, digital print, radio, video, and producing a magazine (down the road). To create a much more well-rounded information experience, our content is focused on arts & culture, politics, community news, trending (local) news, and audio storytelling. One of our most significant efforts (and a personal goal) is driving community engagement–we want your opinion and feedback because we want to report the news that matters most.
We accept letters to The Editor, and our inbox is always open for any news tips, questions, or concerns. I do my best to respond to everyone, so it takes time–but you will get a response.
Things will be up and running here shortly, but you can subscribe if you'd like to stay updated and receive emails when new content is published!
With community,
Kelby
